What is the Quality Metrics National Test?
The Quality Metrics are a sector-developed set of questions which are used to evaluate the quality of arts and cultural work.
The National Test of these questions is running between November 2015 and June 2016 to gain a clear understanding of their practical application and potential across Arts Council England’s funded portfolio.

Who is Involved?
150 arts organisations in England representing a proportional mixture of National Portfolio Organisations and Major Partner Museums are trialling the Quality Metrics. In addition, 20 organisations are also refining and testing a set of Participatory Metrics.
This trial is being delivered through the Culture Counts evaluation platform, and is being independently assessed by an external third party.

The Methodology
The Quality Metrics are based on a core set of dimensions the cultural sector has identified as key indicators of quality. These dimensions are presented as statements which respondents indicate a level of agreement with.
Cultural value insights come from triangulating perspectives from three different types of respondents: self-assessors (artists, producers and curators), peer assessors (other professionals in the sector with relevant experience) and the public. Data is collected using an online platform which captures and displays real-time results.
Results can then be interpreted and shared by organisations to better understand the quality and impact of their work and how far they are meeting their creative intentions. As the Quality Metrics are standardised, over time organisations can track and compare reactions to exhibitions, events and productions, across different locations and audience groups.
